Fresne-Ducret

Champagne

For more than 180 years, the Fresne family has been running the estate located in Villedommange, Premier cru of Montagne de Reims.

Pierre and Daniella Fresne are the embodiment of Champagne Fresne Ducret’s story: at the crossroads of cultures and history. They represent a new generation of winemakers devoted to the future of champagne.

Pierre restaured the vineyards of Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir growing on chalk, sand and clay soils. He planted a small parcel of lost grape variety Petit Meslier. Because he doesn’t ever want to duplicate his work, Pierre Fresne reinvents himself each year when he blends his cuvées. In his eyes, Nature offers a multitude of possibilities that one must recognize and seize. He experiments, tests, and studies, until he finds the perfect combination, the blend that will express all the aromas of the terroir of his village.

Les Nouveaux Explorateurs
Champagne Premier Cru

70% Pinot Meunier, 25% Pinot Noir, 5% Chardonnay.

« Les nouveaux explorateurs » is a maiden voyage to the Premier Cru land of Champagne Fresne Ducret. It is an invitation to meet those who forged the family’s image. Made predominately from pinot meunier, which was once the only varietal grown in Villedommange, this cuvee reveals first and foremost freshness with its apple aromas, before unveiling more complex notes of toast and raspberry.

"Such a pure, fresh apple smell. It's as if I have a bowlful of chopped apples right in front of me, with the floral delicacy of Pink Ladys, the sweet honeyed warmth of Golden Delicious, the bracing tang of Bramleys, the wild sweet-sharp crunch of Cox. Mousse fine as the tiny point work of Belgian lace. Tiny hint of aniseed towards the end. Thirst-quenching, joyously pure."

"Golden. Rich aromas of freshly baked bread and apricots. Beautiful density and concentration of flavour; the apricot aromas follow through on the palate, along with baked oranges and shortbread. Both breadth and depth, ending in a mouthwateringly long, lemon-zested finish. Gorgeous, crystal-cut bubbles – like tiny diamonds in texture."

"Super-fresh and floral. All lift and kick on the nose and to begin with on the palate, but gets deeper towards the finish. Almost honeyed end with deep traces of caramelised Seville orange. Long grip. Quite loose-knit bubbles with all the tension coming from the acidity. Wonderful with salted Marcona almonds."

Pierre & Prosper
Champagne Premier Cru

60% Chardonnay, 20% Pinot
Noir, 20% Pinot Meunier.

« Pierre & Prosper »" is a homage to the founder of the Fresne Ducret brand : Pierre’s great-grandfather, Prosper Fresne.

Exemplifying our affinity for traditional methods, this cuvée celebrates the work of the early creators of champagne. Dominated by chardonnay, aged in oak and acacia barrels, and enclosed in a square-ringed bottle, it underwent a long ageing on the lees (minimum 60 months) and represents the essence of our expertise.

"Golden colour with very tiny, delicate bubbles. It smells of chamomile and late-summer-meadow honey. Very fine, very lively mousse, and the first impression is one of sherbet. Lots of sherbet. And then that gives way to a mid palate rich and broad and golden – baked apples and fresh apricots, sweetly intense oranges, cardamom. Complex layers and shifting flavours, tingling and long. A real heartthrob. Even more stunningly beautiful on day two."

My name, linked with his, has created an intergenerational link between us that includes Michel, Laurent, Jean, André, and Joseph, who built the Fresne Ducret domaine and passed it on to us.
